UCLA senior, Mercedez Sanchez, is not quite done with her gymnastics career. She has transferred to San Jose State University on a full athletic scholarship to pursue her masters degree.
Sanchez announced the news on her Instagram page, stating that she is “looking forward to this new chapter of my life and am so blessed to be a part of this new gymnastics team.”
Sanchez has a year of eligibility left to compete in the NCAA as she never made lineups at UCLA. She was originally slated to compete on her senior night in March, but that meet was canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Sanchez’s UCLA teammates ecstatically showed their support for her on social media, with former roommate Madison Kocian saying she can’t wait to spend time with her in San Jose.
